Designed by R.J. Mitchell, the Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and other Allied countries during World War II. First flown in 1936, it became a symbol of British resistance during the Battle of Britain (1940). Over 20,000 Spitfires were produced across various models.
