There’s something magical about an Irish Coffee, especially after a Sunday roast on a bank holiday weekend. Maybe it’s the cosy comfort of cream floating on hot coffee, the mellow fire of whiskey, or the way it feels like a treat and a tradition all at once. Whatever it is, this drink is pure magic in a glass – and today, I’m going to show you how to make it the Jet Bean way.
I first had a proper Irish Coffee on a long layover in Shannon, watching the drizzle roll down the airport windows and thinking about how good the Irish are at making life a little warmer. This recipe brings that feeling home – rich, velvety, boozy, and balanced.
What You’ll Need:
Serves 1 – for when you need a little lift
-
1 double shot (60ml) Jet Bean Jumbo Jet Espresso – or 120ml strong brewed coffee if you’re without a machine
-
1 tsp dark brown sugar – for sweetness and depth
-
35ml Irish whiskey – we love Jameson for its smoothness, but use your favourite
-
Lightly whipped double cream – the star of the show, just thick enough to float
-
Optional: pinch of nutmeg or grated dark chocolate on top
Method – How to Build the Perfect Jet Bean Irish Coffee
-
Warm your glass
Pour hot water into your glass (a heatproof goblet or a stemmed glass works best). Let it sit for a minute, then tip it out. -
Brew your coffee
Pull a double shot of Jumbo Jet Espresso, or brew a strong 120ml cup if you’re using a cafetière or AeroPress. It should be hot and bold. -
Mix in the sugar
Add the dark brown sugar to the hot coffee and stir until completely dissolved. This adds body and depth, not just sweetness. -
Add the whiskey
Pour in your Irish whiskey and stir gently. This is where the warmth really begins. -
Top with cream – the float is everything
Lightly whip the cream until it’s just thickened (think pourable, not stiff). Slowly pour it over the back of a spoon just above the coffee – this is the key to that beautiful float. -
Don’t stir – just sip through the cream
That first creamy, coffee-rich, whiskey-warm sip is pure heaven.
A Few Flight Tips from Tia:
-
Fresh double cream is essential (don't use the fake alternatives)
-
Don’t go overboard with the sugar (it's about getting the right balance)
-
Serve immediately (the contrast between hot coffee and cool cream is what makes it perfect)
Final Boarding Call
Whether you're winding down after a long shift or entertaining friends at home, Irish Coffee is one of those drinks that makes people slow down and smile. It’s a ritual, a comfort, and a tiny bit of luxury in a glass.
Made with our Jumbo Jet Espresso, it’s got enough attitude to impress – and just enough Irish charm to warm your soul.
