There’s a lot of buzz in the skies right now about Global Airlines - a new startup carrier promising to bring back the golden age of air travel. As someone who travels with multiple airlines regularly, I tend to approach airline startups with a healthy dose of skepticism. It’s a notoriously tough business, and plenty of bold promises never make it past the press release stage.
But Global Airlines has done something different: they’ve gone big. Really big! They're starting with a fleet of refurbished Airbus A380s, the largest passenger aircraft in the world - at a time when most airlines are retiring theirs. So the question is: Are they onto something… or just romanticising the past?
Luxury Reimagined, or Recycled?
Global Airlines claim they’re offering true luxury in every class, not just the front of the plane. Think spacious seating, curated onboard experiences, and a real focus on comfort. The images they’ve teased show a slick, retro-futurist vibe, somewhere between Pan Am nostalgia and modern minimalist chic.
But here’s the thing, plenty of airlines say they’re luxurious. The real test comes down to consistency and quality. Are we talking about flatbeds and mood lighting, or is this something genuinely new?
From what I’ve seen and heard so far, the standout potential lies in space. The A380’s double-decker layout gives them a unique canvas. If they’re smart, they’ll use that space for onboard lounges, work pods, and yes, great food and coffee experiences.
Food, Coffee, and Culture: The Missing Piece
This is where my ears perked up. In several interviews, Global Airlines have hinted at a focus on food that celebrates international flavour and craftsmanship. They’ve even name-dropped the idea of partnering with chefs and premium coffee brands. (You know where I’m going with this…)
This could be the moment where airlines stop treating coffee as an afterthought. Why not take inspiration from luxury aviation coffee companies like Jet Bean Coffee and bring that same experience to 38,000 feet? Freshly brewed specialty coffee, artisan pastries, elevated menus in every class, it’s not just doable, it’s desirable, and something that's missing in commercial aviation. For many of us, these details are what turn an airline from forgettable to first-choice.

The Verdict: Watch This Space
Is Global Airlines building something truly new? Maybe. At the very least, they’re trying to disrupt and break the mould... And in an industry that’s become increasingly commodified, that’s worth paying attention to.
Their success will depend not just on aircraft or aesthetics, but on whether they can deliver consistently high-quality, thoughtful service. If they follow through, especially on food and coffee, they could genuinely reset expectations.
For now, I’ll be watching their progress with a Jet Bean Espresso in hand. Maybe one day it'll be served on board, we can only dream!
Safe travels and better brews,
